Question:
I plan to use a Hopkins 48470 connector and a 48500 plug. Can I get just the flex-coil wire without plugs? If not, does the 47075 have seven conductors of adequate guage for a tandem-axle trailer with lights and electric brakes on all 4 wheels?

Expert Reply:
There is a 6-wire Flexo-Coil cord, # RM-1046-R, with just the wires but there is no 7-wire option. There is also a 4-wire version, # RM-1064-B. The # HM47075 cable is only going to have 5 wires inside since the one end can only be used on a 5-Way or 4-Way flat trailer connector.
The wires inside the 6-wire # RM-1046-R is 14 gauge. This is not the ideal size for brake or 12 volt line. You could just use jacketed 7-wire, # DW04914-1 which has 6 wires that are 12 gauge and 1 that is 10 gauge and this would work much better for electric brakes.
We also have several trailer side connectors with 7-Way plugs already on them. I have included a link to them for you.
