Can a Universal Cam-Door Lock for Enclosed Trailers be Used in the Horizontal Position

Question:

Im changing our horse trailer from a gate door style to a ramp. Im trying to decide how to lock the ramp in position and was thinking of using a universal cam lock in a horizontal position. Can it be used that way?

Expert Reply:

It is possible to use the cam-door lock, # 383200, horizontally but it would need to be placed up higher than the midway point to reduce the amount of stress on it when the door is closed. Take a look at the picture I have included that shows this type of set up. For a lock you could use # BLDL-80.
