Question:
Hello, I was looking at air bags but now might go to Supersprings. But....I see two different ones. One, seems to be rated for 2k lbs and the other for 3k lbs. I have a F150 short bed that I am going to be using with a fifth wheel that has around a 1100 pin weight. Should I go with the heavier duty 3k lbs spring? Thanks

As long as the gross vehicle weight (GVW) of your 2012 Ford F-150 does not exceed 7,500 lbs, then you will be fine installing the 2,000 lb SuperSprings, # SSA5MTKT. The important thing to consider when you are choosing between the 2,000 lb SuperSprings or the 3,000 lb SuperSprings, # SSA28, is the GVW of your truck when it is fully loaded and hooked to your trailer. Your GVW will include the curb weight of the truck plus the weight of any passengers, cargo and the pin weight of your trailer.
If you do not frequently tow or haul heavy loads and your GVW will not exceed 7,500 lbs when towing, then you may want to go with the 2,000 lb SuperSprings to reduce the effects of the SuperSprings when you have an empty truck. You could notice a slightly stiffer ride when you are not hauling a load with the 3,000 lb spring over the 2,000 lb springs. The ride difference will not be tremendous, but it may be noticeable.
After doing some research on your truck, there are very few models that have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 7,500 lbs and those are the EcoBoost models and the SuperCrew 4x4 models. If you find that your GVW will be in the range of 7,000 lbs to 7,500 lbs, then I would recommend installing the 3,000 lb SuperSprings because they will hold up better over time. Consistently using an item at or near its maximum capacity will reduce the longevity of that item.
