Using Buyer's Products 337RT25836B 36 Inch Receiver Tube as Hitch Extender

Updated 09/12/2020 | Published 09/10/2020

Question:

I need an extra couple feet go be able to launch a 16foot inflatable rescue boat at a beach. Can I drill a hole and use it as an extension to be installed at the beach and not used over the road. Thanks

If the tow vehicle has a 2 inch hitch, a receiver tube like # 337RT25836B would not fit into it, as its outer dimension is roughly 2-1/2 inches square. If your tow vehicle has a 2 inch hitch the longest extension we have available for it is 18 inches, part # C45796. The extender would reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half, so be aware of that.

If the hitch has a 2-1/2 inch receiver, the # 337RT25836B would fit, but you might need to lightly sand off some of the powder coat. Keep in mind that the part is not designed for that purpose. If the trailer has minimal tongue weight, you'll likely be okay, but as you'd said it certainly should be removed before towing on the road.
