Question:

The fit guide says it only works on the version without the electric tail gate, can you explain how that works?

I went to the Saris website concerning the Saris Bones EX3 # SA803 bike rack and your 2015 Subaru Forester and found no prohibitions. I checked with our vehicle fit team and they did not see any issues. You can use the EX3 with your Forester even if it has an electric liftgate.

While you can use this rack on a vehicle with a liftgate, it is still not recommended to USE the liftgate when the rack is installed. The rack is especially designed not only to fit on a liftgate, but too also work with liftgates that have spoilers. I have attached a picture of this rack being used on a liftgate with a spoiler so you can get an idea of how it will look on your Forester.
