Replacement 4.80-12 Radial Trailer Tires and Wheel With 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern

Updated 08/25/2020 | Published 08/24/2020

Question:

Hi, I have a Viking Pop Up Trailer which I purchased used. It has a 4.8 x 12 tire. In 30 trips we have had 4 blow outs. We have purchase replacements at Tractor Supply 4.8x12 4 ply. I think there are a couple issues: - we typically drive faster than 65 mph. - not positive the tires were at 60psi. - I am convinced the trailer weighs more than the tires allow. I know triple whammy.... I want to replace the tires and rims with a radial tire but need to know correct size. I am pretty sure I will need to replace the rims - with the correct width in a 12 inch diameter - 4 bolt pattern. Any ideas?

You likely already know this but just for the sake of being thorough, to avoid blowouts always fill your trailer tires to the maximum psi, follow the speed rating, and be sure they have a load range that meets or exceeds the GVWR of your trailer.

With that out of the way, if you are doing highway traveling and going faster than 65 mph we do have a radial 4.80-12 tire that you can use, the Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT48012C.

This tire has an 81 mph speed rating and is a load range C tire, with a maximum 990 lb capacity (per tire). Then for wheels with a 4 on 4" bolt pattern I recommend the Dexstar Steel Modular Trailer Wheel # AM20122.

For lug nuts with these you can use the Lionshead Trailer Wheel Lug Nut # LHLR103.
