How Change Settings On The Primus IQ Brake Controller
Updated 08/06/2020 | Published 08/04/2020 >
Question:
I was driving down the road and tried to adjust my brake controller power output at a stop light at which point the brake controller started alternatively flashing “0.0” and “.c.”. As I continued to drive it feels like the brakes on the trailer are at least somewhat engaged and I’m dragging the trailer with the brakes on. My MPG’s ped and I can’t get the brake controller to stop flashing those codes. Please help.

On the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional Item # TK90160 if the brake controller shows a ".c." it means trailer is connected and boost setting is engaged. If it Read ".c" it means trailer is connected with no boost setting engaged. The "0.0" flash means the brake controller is set to "0.0" trailer braking. You need to set you braking power. Hold the manual override lever as if you were applying the brakes on the trailer, rotate the power wheel to change the power setting from "0.0". Typically a good setting we start at is "5" to "5.5". You want to make your changes while sitting still, with the vehicle running, in park with your foot off the brake pedal. Once you have changed the controller setting take your vehicle for a short drive with the trailer connected. Get up to about 25 mph and apply the brakes on the trailer with the manual override knob without pressing the brake pedal on the vehicle. If the trailer wheels lock up you want to lower the power output by rotating the power wheel on the brake controller from "5" down until you can apply the brakes on the trailer with the manual override lever and not lock the wheels up. If you find that at "5" it is not enough then you simply rotate the power wheel so the number goes up. It is always recommended when setting up your brake controller to do you testing in an empty parking lot.
