Bike Rack Solution for 2018 Chrysler Pacifica that Allows Rear Hatch to Open with Bikes Loaded

Hello there We have a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica mini- van Can we open the trunk with this trunk mounted bike rack installed? Would the rack interfere with the automated trunk opening mechanism? Thanks!

Trunk mounted bike racks have to be totally removed before opening the rear hatch of a vehicle. The additional weight would make the struts that normally hold the door open unpredictable (most likely would fall) and a lot of the time the hooks would damage the body of the vehicle if the hatch was attempted to open since it would press against the vehicle.
If you wanted a bike rack solution that allows access to the rear hatch of your vehicle you'd need to go with a hitch mounted option. Ideally a swing away bike rack like the Yakima FullSwing part # Y02465 which can even swing out with bikes loaded on it. You'd need a hitch installed on your 2018 Chrysler Pacifica like the # e98903 and you'd be set.
