Winch Recommendation for Pontoon Boat

Published 07/08/2020

Question:

I guess anything is possible when getting the boat out of the water. To me as a manufacturer of industrial instruments, that plate and bolt should have never bent. The part should have been made out of heat treated stainless steel. Can you recommend a better winch? I do not want to put the same one that failed twice back on the trailer.

That's a really unusual place for winch to bend/fail. I'd be willing to be the issue is that the angle of the winch's pull is not ideal. What degree is the winch pulling from relative to the winch plate direction? Parallel?

Dutton Lainson winches are made in the USA and have a reputation as being very reliable and well made. I'd go with a higher capacity model than what you have like the # DL15440 which has a 3,200 lb weight capacity and has two speads and was designed for boat trailer applications.
