Why Can't the Factory Trailer Hitch Be Replaced On a 2005 Ford F-150

Question:
the OEM hitch on this truck rusted out. The install of Draw tite 41549 states this will not work with a previously installed OEM hitch. Why? Are the required holes not there? I realize I may need to make alterations to the existing bumper set up but, am just curious as to why it will not work.

The reason the factory trailer hitch on a 2005 Ford F-150 cannot be replaced with an aftermarket hitch like the Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 41549 is because the factory hitches tie into the factory bumper and the aftermarket hitches don't. It will physically fit but there would not be sufficient support for the factory bumper. If you replace the factory bumper with an aftermarket bumper you should then be able to use an aftermarket hitch.
