will this fit an older smart tote with 4 wheels i think its pt# 40538

The Valterra Tote Tank Hose w/ 3" Bayonet Fittings - Red - Vinyl - 5' Long # D04-0111 will work with the tote-N-Stor system and is compatible with your Thetford Smart Tote if you are replacing the hose of the unit. If you are instead wanting to add length to the current hose then you will want the RhinoEXTREME RV Sewer Hose Extension w/ Pre-Attached Swivel Fittings - Black - 5' Long # CAM39865 based on my research to attach to the hose already on your Smart Tote.
