2020 Highlander Platinum AWD Trailer Wiring Recommendation

Question:

MY car came with a towing ready package. Currently dealer does not have a hitch available from Toyota. Would like to buy the hitch package from Etrailer however have two questions. 1 There are different wiring kits. I am not sure if my car came with the wiring ready to the back of the vehicle. Any chance you know if that is the case? Is there a wiring kit that connects to the vehicle wiring and I do not have to run a power and fuse to the battery? Why such a huge range in wiring cost? 2 Also, for hitch install. Is there a work around or kit to remount the lift gate sensor open the hatch automatically. Thanks

Since your 2020 Toyota Highlander has the factory towing package the correct trailer wiring kit is the part # 22119 which will give you a 7-way harness. This kit (and any other option) does require the harness have the power wire ran from the rear to the front of the vehicle. This ensures that the vehicle wiring and trailer wiring is protected in case of a trailer wiring short.

The more inexpensive kits are basically hardwire kits which require you to use a circuit tester to test all of the functions of the vehicle wiring and splice in.
