Installation of Tekonsha T-One Connector

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your rear cargo area. You will have to remove access panels, storage trays, and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the body harness up to your car battery, and route the blue wire up to the grommet that leads into the cargo door. Then connect all of the wires per the included instructions.

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a 2-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's 3-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter hardwires to the body harness that is included in this kit. Just connect the black wire from the brake controller adapter to your car battery, and connect the white wire to a suitable ground. The remaining wires can then be easily spliced into the body harness with the included butt connectors.

This adapter is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller. Because the harness does not hardware to your controller, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

  • Parts Needed to Install 7-Way and Brake Controller 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander
We can definitely help install a brake controller and 7-way on your 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander but first the brake controller I recommend is the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty part # RED24FR with the install harness part # RED69FR. As this controller puts only a small knob on the dash of your vehicle and works really well using an inertia sensor to sense how hard to apply the trailer brakes. You will also need the 7-way kit part # TK57VR that its your vehicle which also comes with brake controller...

  • Installing Brake Controller on 2022 Toyota Highlander with 4-Way
The easiest way to install a brake controller on your 2022 Toyota Highlander with a 4-way is to first install a 7-way kit with the part # TK57VR which includes brake controller wiring as well. Then for a brake controller the Curt Echo Mobile part # C51180 would be a great option as it's wireless and once synced to your smart phone and plugged into a 7-way is ready to tow with.

Hey Kyle, congrats on the new SUV! I am a big fan of the Redarc brake controllers for the exact same reason. The Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7 plugs directly into your 4-way connector and requires you to run a brake controller, power, ground, and accessory wire. It's got all the fuses and wiring you need to complete the installation. For this set up you would need the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller item # RED44FR. The Tekonsha OEM Replacement...

We do have a 7-way blade wiring harness available for your 2023 Toyota Highlander. What you need is the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness # TK57VR. This plugs into the connection in your rear cargo area for installation. You can use the # PK12711U and # 18140 brackets to mount the 7-way connector at the back. For a brake controller I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED24FR. The main unit mounts out of site so only the control knob is visible in the cab. The knob controls...

  • Troubleshooting Tekonsha 7-Way Install on a 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
You could honestly have a problem on either the vehicle side or the trailer side. The best way to check is by using either a different vehicle or trailer to see if the problem duplicates. If you do not have another trailer or vehicle with a 7-way a Test Light # PTW2993 or 7-Way Tester # PK12741 can be used to verify if your vehicle wiring is correct. Often times when you have a wiring issue like you describe it is from the tail lights being connected backwards on the trailer. You may...

I recommend going with a Tekonsha brand brake controller. Tekonsha is considered the best brand for brake controllers as far as quality, durability, and functionality. Then for a brake controller the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty part # RED24FR would be a really great option that only puts a small knob on the dash of the vehicle and is proportional which means it senses how hard you are applying the brakes and puts a relative amount on the trailer brakes.
