The Roadmaster StowMaster Tow Bar # RM-501 uses the crossbar so you'll need to install the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # RM-523182-4 on your 2017 GMC Canyon since the Curt Base Plate Kit isn't compatible.
I've attached a link to the Roadmaster kit being installed on a 2016 Canyon that you can check out.
For a complete flat towing setup you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and possibly a high-low adapter. If you do not have all of these components just let me know and I can make some additional recommendations for you.
