Can the Kuat NV # BA22B Be Used on Bikes With Front Fenders

Question:

Can this tray style bike rack with wheel clamps work on a bike with a front fender? I need to haul an expensive carbon frame bike in a tray system as well as a town bike that has fenders.

As long as the fender is tightly installed on the bike and the hook is attached to the fender as close as possible to the top tube of the bike, the # BA22B should carry the town bike you mentioned with no problem whatsoever.

I spoke with one of my contacts at Kuat, who uses the very same rack to carry his wife's bike that has fenders, and he says it works very well. The inside of the hooks are padded, but you can place a towel or other piece of cloth between the hook and the fender if you wish. He went on to say that it is not necessary to crank the hook down very hard, a light pressure will keep the bike firmly in place.

I just received the Kuat Transfer v2 (after recall version). Luckily I read about the fender issue and did not assemble. There is just a little fender on front. I thought about putting a koozie on the fender. Am also preparing to return the whole thing. Otherwise, I think this rack will be great. Thoughts?

@Mark The Kuat Transfer isn't a great choice for bikes with front fenders, so returning it wouldn't be a terrible idea. The Hollywood Racks # HLY94FR Destination would be a good alternative for bikes weighing up to 35 lbs each. Let me know if you have any questions!
