Question:
Good day, I have a 2016 Honda Odyssey and am interested in pulling a Palomino pop up camper which is close to 2000 lbs or so. This Palomino camper has a 7 pin connection, but I have been assured after research, speaking with the previous owner, and by looking at the tires themselves, etc. that there are no brakes on the camper. Ive been doing research on trying to find the best wiring, but Im coming up with that all of these 7 pin options need brake controllers, etc. even though I dont think I need all of that. I apologize that I do not have any pictures to send you at this time. I can send some if needed and at your suggestion. Do you have any suggestions or knowledge on why a camper may have a seven pin connector, but not have brakes? Do you have any simple wiring solutions for a 7 pin connection that dont need all the bells and whistles for a 2016 Honda Odyssey? I appreciate any help!

I have exactly what you need to add a 7-way trailer connector to a 2016 Honda Odyssey. For this, you'll need to start with a 4-way trailer connector and I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118521 which is plug-n-play. Then you can convert this to a 7-way using the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation part # ETBC7L. The 7-way is easy to install; just plug the two 4-ways in, ground the white wire, then run the black wire up to the battery but that's it. The pin needed for a brake output signal is present if you need it down the road but you won't be required to do anything extra if the trailer doesn't have brakes.
In regards to why the 7-way trailer connector is used, this is most likely because the trailer has an auxiliary battery on board that needs charged. If you don't already have a trailer hitch picked out, the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98862 is what I recommend.
