How to Lock B&W Gooseneck Ball and Companion 5th Wheel Hitches to 2019 Ram 3500

Updated 03/31/2020 | Published 03/30/2020

Question:

I was wondering if the Fifth Wheel/Goose Ball installation kit has a way to lock the hitch in place? Or can anyone come up to your truck and pull the lever and steal your hitch or ball?

B&W doesn't have a direct way to lock the hitch ball to the Custom Underbed Installation Kit # BWGNRK1320-5W or the Companion # BWRVK3400 (for a 6-1/2' bed) or # BWRVK3500 (for an 8' bed), however we do still have some options for you to add theft protect for these on your 2019 Ram 3500.

The easiest thing to do is add a cable lock like part # e98891 to your setup. You can route this through the lift piece for the hitch ball when it's in the stored position as well as around either of the Companion hitches (on a non-moving part), and then through one of the integrated tie-down loops in your truck bed.

The cable lock is a very simple solution but it could potentially be an eyesore. An alternative solution I have for you is to install a tonneau cover that locks in place with your tailgate. This is definitely more of a pricey solution but it also has some practical applications. By adding a tonneau cover you can have the potential to leave something valuable but much lighter than a 5th wheel hitch in the bed of your truck and know that someone would literally have to break the tonneau cover to get at whatever you have stored back there.

I really like the BAK Revolver X4s because it gives you all of that security, looks great, is compatible with 5th wheel towing, and it has a matte black finish which is more aggressive than the classic glossy black finish that most tonneau covers have. For a 6-1/2' bed use part # BAK64ZR and for an 8' bed use part # BAK74ZR. Please note that if you have the RamBox or a 5-1/2' bed we will need to look into an entirely different towing setup for you.

One last thing you might be interested in is a 7-Way socket for your truck bed like the Bargman # 50-97-410. This just makes connecting/disconnecting the wiring from your trailer much easier than stretching it down to your bumper.

I have attached some videos on these products that you can check out as well.
