Looking For Good Quality 7-Way Trailer Side Pigtail

Updated 10/28/2025 | Published 10/21/2025

Question:

Im looking for a GOOD 7 pin pigtail trailer side. I use my trailers a lot, and have to replace these almost every year. It seems the terminals get weak in the cord end and I keep getting random trailer disconnected warnings on the dash, yet everything functions correctly. Replacing the cord always fixes it for a couple of months.

Hey Mike, thanks for reaching out. In my experience the most durable 7-way plugs are the "double prong" style like our part # e99011. They tend to make better contact and the plug typically stays more securely inserted compared to other "single prong" designs. This also comes with a junction box which I definitely recommend adding if you don't already have one. It will help keep your connections out of the elements, and will make replacing the 7-way much easier in the future. Although hopefully you won't be doing that quite as much with a double prong plug.

If you keep some electric grease on the plug it will help to prevent corrosion. I have also heard of people cleaning the prongs with like a wire brush and that can help keep the connection solid if they get corroded.

What kind of trailers do you have? Are they mostly utility trailers?

They are all 24' flat bed, bumper pull, pintle hitch, trailers. I keep the plugs and sockets well-maintained. I may need a longer lead than 5'5" though. 8 feet perhaps.

@MikeZ So we do offer an 8' long double prong 7-way cord part # 54006-058 but it does not come with a junction box. You can order that separately # e99009.
