Published 02/26/2020 >
Question:
Can this be used with one of the other brands of weight dist hitch like Curt or Reese? I want to get a hitch now, but use the shank with my camper when i get it. Tahoes need like 10 inches of on some trailers...so i want to be ready.

Weight distribution shanks offered from Curt, Reese, Equal-i-zer, Fastway etc will typically be interchangeable. However, the shank used on the # FA49-00-5900 adjustable ball mount isn't designed for use as a weight distribution shank. Not only will a weight distribution shank need to deal with the trailer tongue weight but also the forces exerted by the weight distributing spring bars with actually exert a huge amount of force. Therefore, you wouldn't want to use anything that hadn't been designed for that purpose.
