It looks like the rubber just snaps into the 11/16 inch hole. For what thickness of material is it designed?

The grommet of the Uni-Lite LED Clearance and Side Marker Light with Grommet - Red Lens # MCL11RKB is approximately 5/16" so trailer frame thickness just under that would be ideal.
It does require an 11/16" hole and there is also an amber version of this light, which is part # MCL11AKB.
