Parts Needed to Tow Motorcycle Trailer with 2016 Mazda 3

Question:
So far as I can see the maximum capacity is tongue is 200 lbs. I have found motorcycle carrier class 3 2 inch with a 400 lb weight capacity. The carrier weighs 38 lbs and my bike is 248 lbs. Is there a hitch that can handle this for my Mazda 3 hatchback? If not I will have to go with a towing. This means I will be spending considerable more to get a small trailer deck. Any advice?

Motorcycle carriers are seemingly really convenient but the problem with them is that they require the vehicle to have a higher towing capacities due to the weight of the motorcycle and carriers. Typically it has to be a truck or a larger SUV to have the needed capacity. So with that in mind only option for you with your 2016 Mazda 3 will be to tow a small trailer. For that the EcoHitch part # 306-X7305 is a confirmed fit and would be a great choice with plenty of towing capacity.
Then for trailer wiring you'd want the part # 118405 which is a custom fit kit that installs by plugging inline with the taillight connectors of the vehicle.
If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
