These gunwale brackets let you carry 1 canoe, hull side up, on your roof rack. It mounts to most crossbar styles, and it includes heavy-duty straps and bow/stern tie-downs to secure your canoe to the roof rack on your vehicle.

Specs:
The Malone BigFoot Pro holds your canoe hull side up on your roof rack crossbars. These gunwale brackets are lined with foam pads to protect your canoe from scratches and scuffs while loading and during transport. And because the brackets are only 4-1/2" tall, you won't have to lift your canoe much higher than your roof when loading it from the side of your vehicle. This low-profile design also makes it less likely that you'll need to remove the carrier when you park in your garage.
The carrier includes 2 cam-buckle straps to secure your kayak to the rack. A set of bow/stern tie-downs are also included to secure the kayak to the front and back of your vehicle. If your vehicle doesn't have any tie-down points, you can get an anchor kit (sold separately) which will let you create anchor points in the creases of your vehicle's hood and hatch.
The carrier clamps to most crossbars without the need for tools. Simply set the carrier on your crossbars, slide the mounting brackets over the bolts, and secure them with the T-knobs.

Dont use ratchet straps on a canoe. You can, but you risk damaging it. Cam straps are great.

If the Malone Bigfoot Pro Canoe roof rack was only an inch high I would never change. I recently bought a Thule Portage Canoe Carrier that is about an inch high and thus easier to lift a canoe over the edge of the racks. Also the very high sides of the Malone racks touch the sides of canoes with tumblehome and I had to add ducktape to avoid scratching the canoe from the bare metal sides of the racks. If Malone would cut the racks down from 3.75 high to 1, they would have a very cost effective and wonderful product.
