What is Required to Install a Brake Controller in 2019 Toyota Highlander With 4-Way

Published 09/09/2019

Question:

Hi I used the 4 to 7 adapter an hooked up the 12 volt using the blk wire .It all works great but I wonder if the test light should stay on all the time and if it would drain the battery. Is there a switch to turn it off or could I add one Thank you.

Since you have a 4-way in your 2019 Toyota Highlander you can install a brake controller like the Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV with Wiring Adapter # C51515 so long as you use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This has a 7-way to 4-way adapter but that alone isn't enough to install a break controller. This kit also includes the necessary circuit breakers, wire and additional hardware you will need to install a brake controller.

I have added a link to a video review and help articles on installing brake controllers for you to take a look at.

The 12 volt pin on your 7-way that comes with the # ETBC7 will be on when your 2019 Highlander is on, but all you need to do is unplug your trailer when you get to your destination and there isn't going to be any type of drain on your battery. If you were referring to not having a trailer connected and the power going to the 12 volt pin, this isn't an issue at all because there won't be anywhere for the power to "go" from the connector without a trailer connected to it.
