Good afternoon, I purchased Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2, Item # C13133 about a year ago. I have been towing items with it but Im now looking at a motorcycle cargo carrier. Interested in this item: Etrailer Motorcycle Carrier for 2inch Hitches - 500 lbs. Item # e98873 I have a small motorcycle. Only 150cc and 260 pounds wet weight. This hitch is rated for 350 pounds so according to the hitch standards Im 90 pounds under. However, the owners manual states a tongue weight maximum of only 220 pounds. Even with a stabilizer strap taking off a couple of pounds I imagine Id still be over the 220 pound tongue weight. Am I unable to tow my motorcycle with a hitch carrier?

The vehicle (2015 Volkswagen Tiguan) and trailer hitch (Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13133) are tested separately of one another which is why one is rated for 350 lbs tongue weight and the other 220 lbs tongue weight. That said, the lower of the two ratings which is usually the vehicle will need to be the figure you abide by. Please note, the weight of the motorcycle carrier (Etrailer Motorcycle Carrier part # e98873) which is 58 lbs will also need to be subtracted from the tongue weight capacity.

Therefore, the best option for you to transport your motorcycle is with a small trailer like the Detail K2 Mighty Multi Utility Trailer part # K2MMT4X6.
