Recommended Anti Trailer Sway Device for a 2018 Volkswagen Atlas

Question:

I have a 2018 VW Atlas with a factory installed hitch and electronic trailer brakes. The hitch is rated for 5,000lb 500lb tongue weight. I will be towing a small single-axel travel trailer dry weight 3,100lb, estimated gross weight around 4,000lb. The Atlas manual states that you cant use a weight distribution hitch with the vehicle. Should I be trying to install some sort of sway anti-sway control system? Everything I see on your website is a combination WDH/Sway control system. Thank you!

It would be a great idea to use an anti-sway system with your 2018 Volkswagen Atlas and small single axle travel trailer. The smaller single axle trailers are actually more prone to sway than the larger tandem and triple axle trailers due to the lack of tongue weight.

There are two styles of anti-sway control, friction and electric. The owner's manual for your Atlas restricts the use of most friction sway control devices so your best option will be an electric anti-sway device. I recommend the Curt Electronic Sway Control System part # C94VV which will give you peace of mind while towing. The electric anti-sway option is also nice because it does not require setup each time like a friction anti-sway device would and you can reverse at an angle no problem.
