Most people install the Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch System with Adapter # AM3200 so that the hitch ball is closer to the rear of the vehicle but if you have enough clearance it wouldn't hurt to orient it so that the hitch ball is closer to the cab. Obviously since industry standard bed rails run side to side and not front to back you wouldn't be able to install it so the hitch ball is closer to one of the wheels than the other.
