How To Mount the Karrite Road Rider Cargo Box On a Vehicle with Roof Rack

can i put a mat on the roof, set the carrier on the mat and use 1 straps under the carrier, under the racks and over the carrier?

The Karrite Road Rider Cargo Box uses a rather unique set of mounting straps to secure the cargo box to the roof of a vehicle. These are no longer available due to the age of the box nor would they allow you to attach it to the roof rack on your Toyota Rav4. In order to do this however you can use the Replacement Hardware Kit part # TH05603 which will work just fine with the Karrite Road Rider Cargo Box. In order to install this hardware kit you will need to center the cargo box on your two crossbars, mark holes on either side of the crossbar in the box, drill these holes out, and then install the u-bolts though the box and around the crossbars.

If you wanted to use the Karrite Road Rider Cargo Box with the mounting straps to secure it then you would need to do so directly to the roof with a pad, the Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad part # RL100650. Therefore, the roof rack would most likely need to be removed for this option. If you want to attach the Karrite Road Rider Cargo Box to the crossbars then you would need the Replacement Hardware Kit part # TH05603. Unfortunately, I do not recommend any other way of attaching this cargo box because it can become very unsafe and a hazard for both you and others on the road.
