Clearance Between Surface and Handle of Lend-a-Hand Folding Grab Handle for RVs

When this handled is folded against a flat surface, what is the clearance between the folded round handle and the flat surface of the RV? I have an awning support which may prevent locking in the folded position, and want to know if one shim will allow locking. The space between the door frame and the awning support is 6.75, and the support sticks out 1-3/8 inch from the wall.

Expert Reply:
I measured the brackets of the Lend-a-Hand Folding Grab Handle for RVs # AM-200 and found from the surface to the edge where the handle locks is approximately 1-5/16". Since you measured your awning support and it is 1-3/8" then you will be fine using a single 1/4" Shim for Stromberg Carlson Lend-a-Hand Folding Grab Handles for RVs # 5991-SM.
