Question:

I am ordering the AM-533 handle and need to know if I will need to order the shim 5991-SM or not. It doesnt say when you need the shim or when not.

The shim kit part # 5991-SM is designed to push the handle part # AM-533 out a little further from the body of the RV so that it can close around a door that sticks out further from the outer wall.

So if your door closes mostly flush with your RV wall you wouldn't need the shim.
