I need instruction to install the above unit on an 08 GMC sierra 1500

To install a brake controller like the # 5504 on a 2008 GMC Sierra, you will need to locate the brake controller wire bundle under the dash. You will need to look below the steering column and to the left of the brake pedal. The wire bundle will be held together with white tape.
The white tape should also list the functions of the wires. We have found that the red wire on the truck connects to the black wire on the brake controller for power. The dark blue wire on the truck connects to the brake controller blue wire for output to the trailer brakes.
The light blue wire on the truck will connect to the red wire on the brake controller for input from the brake light circuit. The white wire on the truck will connect to the white wire on the brake controller for ground.
If you see an orange wire it is not needed. Just tape it up and stow it out of the way.
There may also be some connections you will need to make under the hood to make everything fully functional. I have included a link to an FAQ article that will help. If the truck does not have a 7-Way trailer connector, you will need to add one using # PK11916.
