If you are only needing the basic trailer light functions active for the 7-Way then you just need the Hopkins Adapter # 37185. Simply connect the 4-Way connectors, ground the white wire to your vehicle frame, and then use the mounting bracket with a no-drill option like part # C57202 to complete the installation! The extra wires can be capped off.
For a fully functional 7-Way at the rear of your 2001 Chevy Silverado you need the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This comes with an adapter like the Hopkins as well as all of the wiring and parts that you need. You will make the same connections as mentioned above with the adapter and then route the duplex wiring to your battery and brake controller to complete the installation. I have attached a helpful article on how to do this that you can reference. The article gives you step by step instructions and is very easy to follow. You will want to use the no-drill option # C57202 for this as well.
I have also attached an installation of the ETBC7 on a 2001 Silverado that you can check out. A link to our selection of brake controllers, like the Primus IQ # TK90160 and Adapter # 3025-P, have been linked for you to filter through if that is something you plan on using as well.
