Recommendation to Replace Older Coleman AC on RV
Updated 06/25/2020 | Published 04/13/2019 >
Question:
I have a 2000 Tiffin Allegro with two rooftop units. The ducted front unit will no longer blow cold air. It is controlled by a wall mounted Coleman thermostat and will kick on when the temperature is adjusted. I assume my best option is to replace the unit, but was told there are no direct replacements from a large RV vendor. I was also told if I were to replace the rooftop unit, I would also need an adapter or two as well as a new thermostat and new wiring the best option would be to disconnect the thermostat and go with a new unit with ceiling controls. As this is an older motorhome, I cannot find any information or plug and playinch units for the Coleman 6799A801 model listed on the motorhome spec sheet. If one is available, could you point me in the right direction? If not, would it be too difficult to buy a new unit and thermostat and use existing wiring? Or, even still, perhaps go with a new unit with ceiling controls and use the old thermostat just for the furnace.

Your best option to replace the Coleman AC unit in your 2000 Tiffin Allegro is with the Advent Air # ACM150 along with the Coleman Adapter Kit # ACCOLKIT. This wiring adapter kit should allow for a plug-and-play installation when replacing the unit.
I did reach out to my contact at Advent Air to see about compatibility with older Coleman units like what is on your Tiffin Allegro. He said unfortunately Coleman doesn't release to them when or if they change their connection type over the years so they're unable say for certain if this will plug right in.
My contact did send me a diagram (see attached image) of the adapter that you can compare to your existing harness. You should hopefully be able to look at the connections and wiring scheme to see if it matches what you currently have. If so this system will work perfectly as a replacement and you should also be able to use your current thermostat.
This particular AC unit has a 15,000 Btu cooling capacity and 6 foam pads designed to provide a really quiet operation. I have included a short video review that you can check out as well.
