How Difficult is it to Install a Brake Controller for a 2008 GMC Yukon Denali
Published 03/15/2008 >
Question:
I need an electronic brake controller for my 2008 GMC Yukon Denali, I will be towing a mobile pet salon on a daily basis, It weighs approx. 3,500lbs with electric brakes. Do I need to have this professionally installed or this something I can do myself and if so which one should I get?

With a 2008 GMC Yukon, the install would be very simple for brake controller. GM includes a bundle of wires underneath the dash for a brake controller. One of our most popular brake controllers is the Tekonsha Prodigy, part # 90885.
To wire the Prodigy you would match the wires as follows: Black on Prodigy to Red/Black on Yukon, White on Prodigy to White on Yukon, Red on Prodigy to Light Blue/White on Yukon, and Blue on Prodigy to Dark Blue on Yukon. There are two more wires in the engine bay near the fuse block that would need to be connected to power posts, but they are pretty easy. Once this is done the brake controller install is complete. If your Yukon already has a 7-Way, you are completely done.
If your Yukon does not have a 7-Way, you will need to add one. This process is even easier than installing the brake controller as GM has provided a plug-in socket at the rear. You would just add part # 30955 and it would plug into the wiring under the truck at the rear, then you done.
I have added a link to an article on installing a brake controller on your Yukon that will walk you through with pictures.
