Video Transcript for Kenda Trailer Tires: Insider Insights from the Manufacturer

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here from etrailer and today I'm at N.A.T.M. And this convention brings a lot of the vendors that we have at etrailer to a convention where we have their booths and their products set up. I had a chance to catch up with quite a few of them. So let's take a look at their products a little bit up close and ask some of the questions to those vendors about their products. I'm here with Dave from Kenda. And Dave, what is Kenda Yeah, Kenda is a global tire company, right We have operations around the world and we're in a lot of different categories from automotive to light truck, lawn and garden, bicycle, specialty tires, power sports.

So Kenda really is involved in several different categories as a tire manufacturer, which is really unique for us in the marketplace. So if you cover that wide of spectrum, obviously you guys have tires nailed down and the same goes for trailer tires. Yeah. Yes sir. You know the nice part about it is collaboration of engineering, right So you know what we learn from an automotive design as it relates and what attributes are more beneficial in a trailer application, a more ST, specific tire, and we can learn from one another and our engineering staff a lot of collaboration and conversations.

Sure. Absolutely So taking a look at some of your trailer tires, what do we have today Well, you know, one of the key ones I think most recently, which is gonna be an etrailer very, very soon is our KR53. It's relatively new design, it's been a little bit on the market and we've got some history in market. Very good performance. And when you think about tires, you know you have a choice as a consumer, right In just about everything.

Good, better, best, right So this really fits in the probably good category, economically price position, but the integrity and the quality of it is still there at sort of a premium level. So the value for money that you get is very strong. You know, we use a lot of the same, you know, compounding core structure, design, profile, those are all things that are really just a little bit slightly de tuned from a premium sector. But I think it gives the consumer and neighbors a little bit of a choice in how they actually use their trailer at the end of the day. That makes sense.

So you get all the same safety qualities and confidence you get with the tire, but it's more catered to someone that doesn't maybe use their trailer every day for work. That's correct. You look at maybe the difference in tread depths, right You're not using it on road on long distances. This might be a little bit better suited for you. So not only do you offer tires, but you also offer an assembly which is wheel and tire combo Dave Yeah, and I think that's a really a kinda advantage to be truthful, right So you know, our technical center in North America is in Canton, Ohio, right Epicenter of tires, right And we design, we engineer, R&D, research and then we produce in our own factories, right Nothing is outsourced, it's all internal. So we control that through the entire process and then we take it one step further into the assembly process, right So we look at it as a Kenda advantage, we can control it all the way through, which provides a lot of inherent advantages. And I think that's 'cause we're thinking of every aspect along the way is how it comes together as a total assembly package on an OE application on a trailer or in the aftermarket sold through etrailer. And that's great too because instead of having to take your wheel and get your tire mounted, you can get it all one go take your lug nuts off, swap it and you're ready to rock. Absolutely. Yep. And cool designs too. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. If you want to add a little bit of, you know, eye candy to your trailer, anytime you have something cool on your trailer, you wanna make the trailer look cool as well. Lots of cool wheel offerings. So you can really customize that trailer, give it the look you want. So taking a look at this, this looks like more of a all trainer mud tire, but this is a trailer tire. Dave Well you're getting smarter and smarter learning a lot tires. Yes, it is a mud tire design and aesthetically pleasing to give that off-road look and feel in a trailer application. Inherited advantages. You know, it's not a drive tire, right So you're still gonna have some traction benefits and also when you're in a off-road situation or outback or where you might be traveling, you know the thickness of the tread, you're still gonna run into sticks. You're still gonna run into stones and boulders and rocks. So the sidewall design helps in protection 'cause obviously you want to get out into that environment but you also want to get back. That's right. So that's the difference. That makes sense. And that's where, yeah, you overlanders out there, I've seen plenty of the trailer setups and predominantly you're gonna see tires like this and you're a hundred percent right, you're gonna be off-roading in your truck and those are the drive tires that'll see the abuse. But this is getting pulled behind it. You wanna protect it all the same. It doesn't look bad either if your trailer tires match your truck tires. Not at all. Again, going back to having choices of wheels, tires say a lot to me because there are some patterns that really just stand out. This is absolutely one of them. Huge thanks to Dave from Kenda taking the time to kinda break down some of the trailer tires and combos of wheels that you offer. Thank you very much. Oh, thank you. I mean the more we can help educate and promote, you know, tire, tire safety and what's good for your neighbors, we're here for you. Ask anytime, we appreciate the opportunity for you to be with us today. Thank you. Thank you very much.

  • Trailer Tire Spare to Use with Michelin 215/75R15 Tires
Hey Ted, thanks for reaching out! I saw you picked up the Kenda Karrier KR53 ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire with 15" Silver Mod Wheel # KE34WV - this is a solid choice for a spare tire and will work great in a pinch. Something to keep in mind about spare tires is that you want them to match as closely to your standard tires as possible for best wear and performance. This means I'd just use this as a spare just to get to a shop or garage since it isn't the exact same size as what you...

  • Correct Tire Pressure for Trailer Tires
Hi Roger; the tires I see in your last order are the Contender ST205/75R15. It looks like the wheel and tire you ordered was discontinued but I can tell you that the max psi for that tire was also 50 psi. It sounds like you have different tires now since they're Rainier. One way or another, you need to follow the max psi on the actual trailer tire. The sticker on your trailer only applies to the factory tires that came with the trailer. Once you swap those out you need to adhere to what...

  • Can I Add Larger Wheels And Tires To My 2010 R-Pod 177 With 205/75R14 Tires
Hello Will, thanks for reaching out. It may be possible to upgrade your tires, but the main thing to consider is the clearance in your wheel well area. You want at least 3" between the tire and the fender, and at least 1" between the inside of the tire and the frame of the trailer. So the first thing to do here will be to measure your clearance with the current tire/wheel setup. Then that will tell us if larger tires will fit, and what sizes we can do. The 205/75R14 are going to be about...

  • Looking for Replacement Trailer Tire Wheel with 5 Lug Bolt Pattern that is Near 26 inch Diameter
Hey John, thanks for all of the info you listed but what I didn't see was a tire size. So based on the diameters of everything the closest tire size to what you'd need would be the 205/75-15 mounted on a 5 lug wheel like the part # KE34WV. If you aren't sure this is the size you need I would go back out there and look at the sidewall of the tire and see if you can find a size that has numbers that look like 205/75-15 and let me know.
