My stake pockets measure 3 1/2 x 1 3/4 on the inside. Will this item fit when it says it is 2x4 sizing?

Yes, the Brophy Trailer Stake Pocket Spare Tire Carrier # SPTC will fit your 3-1/2" x 1-3/4" stake pockets. I went out to the warehouse and verified that inserts into the stake pockets measures 3-1/2" x 1-9/16". This is almost identical to the same part on the Buyers Products Stake Pocket Spare Tire Carrier # 3375201012 which is designed for 3-1/2" - 3-3/4" wide stake pockets.
