Recommended 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller for 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Work Truck 2WD

Question:

2016 Chevrolet Colorado Work Truck 2WD with appearance and convenience package Hello, I am looking to set up my trailer wiring but I am clueless. I have a hitch installed already just need the wiring. I took off the cap from where the trailer connector would be and didnt see anything. Its one of those plain caps with no openings either which makes sense since your part has that. When I looked at the bottom of my truck I saw some wires that lined up with the part I found on your website but I wasnt sure. Can you please help me confirm and verify which part I need? My truck does NOT have the trailering package.

For your 2016 Chevy Colorado without trailering package I recommend the 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Sockets w/ Mounting Bracket and Wiring - Vehicle End # HM40975-11998. This will come with the wiring pigtail and everything you need. I recommend using heat shrink butt connectors like # DW05745-10 for a better seal and more resistance to the elements because of the location. I've also attached a video of the installation to assist.

Then if you need a brake controller for a trailer with electric brakes I recommend the Curt Echo # C51180 which will allow you to gain that controller without additional wiring or a dash mount. Let me know if you have further questions.

We have a potential customer with a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado with no tow package (no plugs or anything). I am recommending this package for him. We have not put a towing harness on anything without a tow package as we are a 4x4 shop. Trying to put an estimate together for him, how long did this take to install?

The Hopkins # HM40975-11998 will work great for your customer's Colorado. Even though it didn't come equipped with the factory plug - the trailer wiring should all still be ran back to the rear bumper, so it's just a matter of connecting each wire from the Hopkins pigtail to this harness. It shouldn't take more than an hour. I linked an install video below that you can also use for reference.
