Question:
I have a 2017 tacoma short bed with an Extang Encore installed. With this particular cover and model vehicle , the factory rails had to be relocated down below the tonneau cover rails. I just got into kayaking and am needing to find a solution to haul the kayak when i want to use it. any product out there that works with the extang encore 2.0?

I have a couple possible solutions for you to transport your kayak with your 2017 Toyota Tacoma, however there is not a standard ladder rack available that is compatible with the Extang Encore Tonneau Cover. This is because the hardware for the Encore Tonneau Cover partially covers the top of the bed rails and any ladder rack will either require access to the inside of the bed rails or complete access to the stake pockets.
The first option for your setup is to add a rail system and crossbars to the truck bed. For this you can use the Yakima 54 inch Tracks # Y01127 that will install permanently to the bed rails. The rails themselves are 1-5/8 inches wide so I do recommend making sure you have this space available with the tonneau cover installed.
Then with the rails mounted you will need to add the Landing Pad # Y00221 (you will need a quantity of 2), 4 of the Control Towers # Y8890027, and a set of round Yakima crossbars like the 66 inch # Y00410.
Another option is with a roof rack for your Toyota Tacoma. If you have the Double Cab model with a naked roof (no factory side rails or bars) then I recommend the Yakima JetStream system that consists of # Y00425 for the two 50 inch long JetStream Crossbars, # Y28TR for the BaseLine Towers, # Y06145 for the Front Fit Kit, and # Y06128 for the Rear Fit Kit.
If you have a different roof configuration or cab style please let me know and I will make another recommendation.
With either rack option mentioned above I recommend the etrailer.com J-Style Kayak Carrier # E98878 to secure your kayak to the crossbars. These folding J-style cardles can safely accommodate 1 kayak of up to 150 pounds and all the needed load straps are included.
I have attached a couple short video demonstrations that you can check out as well.
