Will the CURT # D900 Multi-Ball Adjustable Ball Mount Work on a 2005 Jeep Liberty at Maximum Rise

Question:

I have a Jeep Liberty 2005 w the spare mounted on the tailgate. I read the answer to a similar question and I know the Curt D900 has a overall clearance of 16 inches. However what about clearing the spare tire so that all the vertical adjustment can be used? I can tell the lowest maximum is possible,Im more concerned about the lift. The Drawtite 1424 will work based on the spec sheet The Curt Needs One but I like the Multi ball set up better. Thanks

I produced a short video and added dimensions to a photo for you so that you could measure and be sure the CURT Multi-Ball Adjustable Ball Mount, # D900, would work on your 2005 Jeep Liberty with rear mounted spare tire.

The most critical measurements are going to be measurement A and E, see photo. As long as the distance out from the center of your hitch pin hole, 7 inches, and distance up to the top of the ball from the inside top of the receiver, 6-3/4 inches, will clear your spare tire, this ball mount will work for you. You will need to measure to be sure.

You could actually gain another 1-7/8 inches in height if you turn over the adjustable receiver part and and insert the tri-ball shank, if there is clearance on your liberty.

The max drop and rise is measured from the top of the shank to ball mount surface, so for towing a trailer the max drop and rise for this ball mount is 5-3/4 inches.
