Question:
I have a 2018 ford escape and want a really good trailer hitch. What do you recommend? also, what wiring will work? i don't have any tow package on the car.

The best option for a trailer hitch for your 2018 Ford Escape is the Draw-Tite # 75782 which is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver that is a complete bolt-on installation that does not require you drill into your Escape's frame; this hitch is also going to work along with the hands-free liftgate on your Escape if you have that feature.
For wiring on your '18 Escape that does not have the tow package you need Wiring Harness # C56320. I also recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900, which is for 2” hitches and may fulfill your towing needs in one tidy package; two ball mounts - one with a 3/4” rise or 2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise or 4” drop - a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball, and a pin and clip.
You can use the link to the help article on ball mounts I've added to determine if this kit will give you the correct amount of drop or rise. I've also attached a link to our pages with each of our ball mounts and hitch balls for you to check out.
