Installing JT's Strong Arm Jack Stabilizer Kit on 5th Wheel Trailer without Crossmember

Updated 04/05/2025 | Published 09/20/2018

Question:

I have a 2016 forest river rockwood 5th wheel, looking for the best place to mount the rear bars on the electric jack, already purchased the set of foot extenders, just wasnt sure of the bars get mounted behind the jack, or in the front. The rv also has an underbelly on it, so cant see any crewmember to bolt to, thinking about running a piece of angle iron from side to side to mount the hardware for the bars.

When using the Lippert JT's Strong Arm Jack Stabilizer Adapter Kit # LC314597 to attach the JT's Strong Arm # LC191023 to your electric jacks, you will want to mount the bars behind the jacks (toward the outside of the trailer). You can take a look at the attached photo for clarification.

Ideally the mounting hardware for the bars will be attached to a cross-member on the trailer. I did speak with my contact at Lippert regarding your situation where a crossmember isn't accessible. He actually stated that your plan of running a piece of angle iron from side to side is exactly what they recommend for these cases. This will work perfectly.

Can you use 1/8 inch thick aluminum angle iron if there isn't a crossmember to bolt to or does it have to be steel?
