Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon
Updated 08/19/2018 | Published 08/18/2018 >
Question:
Hi, I have a 2014 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited. I dont know whether to buy the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector-Item # 118467, or the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Item # C56040. I have read the specs on both items, and have watched the installation videos for both items. It appears they are both compatible with my vehicle, require the same installation process, and do the same exact thing. If you could tell me what the exact differences are, and which one I should buy, that would be very helpful. I am primary going to be towing a 14foot boat trailer. Thank you very much.

Both the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118467 and the Curt T-Connector # C56040 referenced in your question are confirmed to fit your 2014 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited. As you mentioned, both harnesses will install the same exact way, by connecting to factory ports located in the rear cargo area behind the driver's side trim panel or in the spare tire compartment. The only real difference between the two, other than the manufacturer, is that the Curt harness features a slightly higher maximum amperage of 3 amps per circuit for the stop/turn lights and 6 amps for the tail lights (2.1 amps for stop/turn and 5.6 amps for tail lights on the Tekonsha), however both still offer plenty for just about any trailer light setup.
Even though the Curt harness is a bit stronger in terms of amperage, I actually recommend going with the Tekonsha # 118467. This is simply because Tekonsha specializes in trailer electrical products and they are well known for producing reliable, long-lasting harnesses. We hear far fewer issues with Tekonsha harnesses than we do with those from any other manufacturer.
I have attached an installation video that you can use for reference.
