Tips for Covering and Protecting a Roof Cargo Box in Storage

Question:

Hi, I bought the Thule Motion XT Large last year, and love it. We take it 2 or 3 times on road trips a year. But the rest of the time I store it in the garage. Is there a cover you recommend I can use to protect it from scratching / dust, etc., when storing it? Thanks.

There isn't a specific cover made for your cargo box but I do have a solution for you that will be inexpensive and will help protect your box. You can get large, heavy duty trash bags from a home improvement store, and place the box inside.

If you want additional protection beyond what several of those bags can provide I recommend draping a moving blanket over the box. A large sleeping bag could also work as long as the zipper doesn't rub against the box. Or a combination of the large bags and a sleeping bag would suffice.

I would avoid using something like a tarp because the tarp material is somewhat abrasive and could lead to little scratches on the box.
