Can a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 be Installed on a 2018 Toyota Tundra
Published 08/02/2018 >
Question:
I just bought a brand new 2018 tundra 5.7L and my trailer keeps throwing a disconnect signal to the dashboard. I took my truck to the toyota dealer and it checks out okay pulling everything but a travel trailer. We drove another 2018 tundra and same result. Then, we drove a 2017 tundra with the same trailer it it worked flawlessly, no disconnect message. The dealer recommended that I get an aftermarket controller since the new generation 2018 tundra has a newer brake controller ECU that previous models dont have and its super sensitive. The trailer dealership knew very little on a fix. I would like to install a P3 system on the truck but I see very little information on if my truck is compatible. Please help, I have a long trip planned pulling my trailer and I have to have working brakes! Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 on your 2018 Toyota Tundra but you will need to hardwire it as there is not a plug-in adapter compatible with your vehicle at this time. The P3 is one of the most popular brake controllers we offer and will be an excellent option for you. There is only four wires to connect so installation should be very simple as well. I have even attached a tech support bulletin I was sent from Tekonsha which explains installing a brake controller on your Tundra.
