Troubleshooting Electric Trailer Jack that Will Extend But Not Retract

Question:

I have a UF 4000 it will extend but not retract. Any idea on the issue?

There are a few possible reasons why your electric A-frame jack is extending fine but you are having trouble retracting. If the motor is not running at all when you push retract on the jack, the switch itself is likely the issue and it just needs to be replaced.

If you can hear the motor running when you hit retract but are getting very little or no movement, it's possible that the jack has been over extended. This can cause damage to the threads on the nut and other internal components. Try extending the jack up just a bit, around halfway, and see if you can then retract it without issue from there. If you can, then this is likely the problem and your best option is to replace the entire jack with an equally rated unit like the Ultra-Fab # UF38-944014.

Otherwise make sure your ground connections are secure and the switch contacts are clean on the jack. If you are still having issues please let me know and I will be happy to look into this further.
