Question:
do I need to drill to put a hitch on a dodge durango?

Nope, you sure won't.
There is absolutely no drilling required to install a trailer hitch on your 2017 Dodge Durango, it is a complete bolt-on installation. I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75713 because it will fit even if you have a full-sized spare tire under your vehicle, unlike the option from Curt.
For wiring which will give you a 4-way connector and allow you to power your trailer's lights you need Wiring Harness # C56336 if your Durango does NOT have the factory towing package. If you do have the factory tow package you will need Wiring Harness # C55515.
I also recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900, which is for 2” hitches and may fulfill your towing needs in one tidy package; two ball mounts - one with a 3/4” rise or 2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise or 4” drop - a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball, and a pin and clip.
