How to Determine Correct Replacement Bearings
Published 07/20/2018 >
Question:
I have just purchased a used boat/trailer. The bearing Buddies currently on the trailer are 1.980. Is it possible to determine the inner/outer bearing part numbers with that information?

The size of a Bearing Buddy will not be enough to determine the replacement bearings you need.
In order to find the correct wheel bearings, you need take apart your hub assembly and looking at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you need to use a digital caliper to measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings ride. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure.
I've also added a link to a help article on common bearing sizes, as well as a link to our available bearing kits.
