Can a Hub and Drum Assembly with a 4 on 9.44 Bolt Pattern be Replaced with a 6 on 5-1/2

Question:

Hi, i saw you have a swap recommendation for 5 on 4.5 from dexstar 4 x 9.44. I would like to do this but go to a 6 on 5.5. Trailer is an 86 nuwa hitchhiker II . This swap would give me new brakes too, right? TIA,

As long as your current spindle has the following measurements then you can use a 6 on 5-1/2" hub and drum assembly with your current spindle:

Seal diameter - 1.719 inches
Inner Bearing diameter - 1.378 inches
Outer bearing diameter - 1.063 inches

You can use a digital caliper to verify these dimensions or pull your hub and confirm that you have a # L68149 inner bearing, a # L44649 outer bearing, and that your seal has the appropriate diameter.

If this is the case then we have the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K which has a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern. This assembly is compatible with 10" brakes so if your current assembly has a 10" diameter you actually wouldn't have to swap out your brakes.

A review video for this assembly has been linked for you to check out.
