Updated 06/12/2018 | Published 06/09/2018 >
Question:
Your Roadmaster RM-2000-1 car tow dolly has a recommended ball height of 18 - 20 inches. How is this measured? To the top of the ball or to the bottom?

Expert Reply:
When measuring the ball height of a trailer or dolly, like part # RM-2050-1, you measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. In order to tow the dolly level you also want to measure from the ground to the top inside edge of your vehicle's trailer hitch receiver tube. Find the difference between the two to determine if you need a ball mount with a rise or drop and how much. If the trailer is higher you need a rise and if the vehicle is higher you need a drop.
I've linked a help article that goes into this in more detail, as well as our selection of ball mounts for you.
