Can a Winch Strap Be Used with the Fulton Trailer Winch Part # F142412 (T2625)

Question:
Hi, I have a fulton T2625 trailer winch with a very rusty cable that needs replacing. Specs on the winch are 2600lbs 1st layer and 1190 lbs Full drum, which cable or strap should I buy to replace? And will a strap work - I honestly prefer the strap as it is less likely to rust so quickly and the cable always freaks me out a bit. Thanks!! I tow a 218 sailfish with a yamaha 250.
