Is Brake Light Relay Needed With Supplemental Braking System on 1997 Jeep Wrangler?

Updated 04/16/2018 | Published 04/13/2018

Question:

Looking at wiring for towed vehicle. 1997 Jeep Wrangler. Brake lights on jeep always on regardless of ignition key position. Will your relay rm88400 work with a Brakebuddy supplemental brake system? What do I use for a signal to the relay from the supplemental brake system?

To start with, I recommend going with the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154 for wiring on your 1997 Jeep Wrangler. This kit includes 4-way flat connectors for your RV and Jeep and will prevent electrical feedback which may cause damage.

In terms of the relay, you will need to use the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400 with each of the supplemental braking systems we carry unless you use magnetic tow lights such as # TL21RK. We do not carry the Brake Buddy so I am unfamiliar with its installation; however, unless it has a brake light relay included then there is no reason to think you would not need to use it.

I've added links to video reviews and installs of these parts for you to check out as well.
